Abstract:
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Computers Helping People with Special Needs, ICCHP 2008, held in Linz, Austria in July 2008.
The 190 revised contributions presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 360 submissions. The papers evaluate how various fields in computer science can contribute to helping people with various kinds of disabilities and impairment.
The papers are organized in topical sections on human-computer interaction and usability for elderly:
- design for all: from idea to practice, users need standards - users need standards need users,
- accessibility: education for web design and elearning, accessible content processing,
- web accessibility: automatic/manual evaluation and authoring tools and quality control and best practice,
- people with disabilities: software accessibility, entertainment software accessibility, hearing impaired,
- deaf and deafblind people: HCI and communication, people with specific learning difficulties - easy to read and HCI,
- blind and visually impaired people: HCI and access to graphics, access to mathematics and science, accessible tourism, smart environments, portable and mobile systems in assistive technology,
- skills vs. abilities: alternative input and communication systems,
- people with disabilities: speech therapy and sound applications, mobility and care, and service provision.
